More than 80 Shia pilgrims are reported to be killed in a suicide attack at Hilla, Iraq. The pilgrims were returning to Iran from Karbala after commemorating Arbaeen, the end of 40 day mourning period for the tragic killing of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Mohammed.

Hilla is south-east of Karbala. The death toll is expected to rise. According to the local media, the bomb exploded at the gas station.

Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack through Amaq news agency.
