Over 37 people have been killed and more than 100 injured in the massive bomb attacks occurred at multiple Coptic Churches in cities of Alexandria and Tanta of Egypt. The death toll is expected to increase as several of the injured are in critical state. The blasts occurred on Palm Sunday.

Islamic State in Sinai has claimed responsibility for the attack. Islamic State has targeted Coptic Christians for their support for the dictatorial regime of Sisi, which displaced the democratically elected government of Morsi.

Coptic Christians are religious minority in Egypt, making up to 10% of Egypt’s total population. Pope Francis is expected to arrive in Egypt this month.
