Al-Jazeera has released a three part documentary on the concept and history of Caliph in Islam. The documentary goes in-depth on various caliphates that have occurred during the last 1400 years, the conquests of Spain, Constantinople, the crusades, the Ottoman empire and eventual fall of Caliphate.
