Wikileaks has released close to three hundred thousand emails of Turkey’s AKP party, belonging to the current President Erdogan.  The emails are as recent as July 6th 2016. These are of extra-ordinary significance for Turkish citizens given the recent attempted coup.

It needs to be clarified that, these emails belong to the party members of AKP party. So, Wikileaks have set the expectation that, one might not find emails from Turkish President or Prime Minister.

Here’s what we know so far from the emails:

  • Majority of the emails are originated from the Google Group (Turkiye-icin-el-ele@googlegroups.com). Seems like, it’s a popular Google Group.
  • Then there are bunch of silly email forwards which make ridiculous claims such as “Satellite technology, presumably developed and controlled by the U.S. government, is being used to track, monitor, torture and kill Americans. The satellite operators establish an invisible microwave connection with peoples’ brains, providing constant tracking and silent surveillance. They can hear what we hear, see what we see and even read our thoughts – total surveillance of anyone, anywhere in the world. This technology is infinitely more frightening and Orwellian than NSA data collection”.

There is nothing confidential or secretive found so far in the emails. It may be because Wikileaks has still not released the actual material.
